Kaiserwinkl Ballooning 2014

During the last week of January, we spent a fabulous time in Kössen / Austria, where we took part in the “13th Kaiserwinkl Alpin Ballooning”, one of the biggest winter meetings in the Alps with over 50 balloon teams. Weather was not that good at first, but we braved the snowfall and took part in the opening parade with our fully rigged basket nevertheless!

After a day of skiing, wicked parties and an enchanting visit to the “Ottenalm”, the skies finally cleared and we could fly 5 times in a row! And in the evenings, we were kept busy with tobogganing, night glowing, and, well, partying ;-)

The big finale was our flight above the “Wilder Kaiser”, the rough, impressive mountain the “Kaiserwinkl” got its name from. When we flew out over Lake Chiemsee, the weather was so fine and warm that we stripped right down to our t-shirts!
Altogether, during the meeting, we flew a distance of 270 kilometers and spent over 15 hours in the air. What an awesome week! =)

A big thank you to the team of Ballooning Tyrol, Irmgard, Walter, Sandra, Heidi, Thomas and all the others who organised such a fine event again! And of course thank you Bernadette for sharing your wonderful photos with us! :-)
