For the first time, the BWLV (aviation association of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg) held its own balloon competition – but with a twist! The event was targeted to competition beginners with less complex tasks, so the competition experts that attended the event took over the role of mentors and were each put in groups with four newbies to share their advice and experience.
Instead of flying ourselves (we felt too experienced to count as newbies, yet not experienced enough to play the role of a mentor), we had decided to support the young pilots of the Balloon Club of Stuttgart as co-pilot and retrieve, which proved to be a lot of fun!
After three nice flights on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon, the last slot on Sunday morning was unflyable due to high windspeeds, and so we could all have a nice party on Saturday evening. All’s well that ends well =)
