ST. NICHOLAS BALLOON ASCENT AT SONTHOFEN
It’s a tradition for more than 50 years already: Every December, the Sunday after St. Nicholas’ Day at Sonthofen in the beautiful Allgäu, Bishop Nicholas himself gathers all the children’s wish lists and climbs a balloon to take the letters to the Christkind in the heavens, who will then prepare the gifts for Christmas.
We visited this unique event past weekend, as did many many children from all over the town!
