It was on the 21st of July in 2013, ten years ago on this very day, when we officially launched our new website “alifeofballooning.com” with its first post. Back then, we had set it up as a kind of blog, where we wanted to share some pictures from our experiences at Europe’s biggest balloon festival, the Lorraine Mondial Air Balloons at Chambley, France.
The world was a different one, back then: Mobile internet was still new, roaming very expensive (if available at all), smartphones slowly evolving. So we fought our way with buying hilariously slow sim cards and hanging our battery powered routers on the top of our flagpole for better coverage. More than one of the flights we did were rather risky, but we didn’t know better since the coverage often was so poor that we couldn’t even load weather data.
Nevertheless, we survived, posted some pictures and had good fun sharing our experiences online, getting great feedback from those at home.
Over the years, posting pictures from our flights became an additional hobby, then passion. Cameras and connections got better and better, skills followed. And so, we find ourselves back at Europe’s biggest balloon festival – what better place to celebrate this anniversary – armed with a camera and a balloon, to once more capture the magic of ballooning.
Success maybe, excitement guaranteed! =)
A LIFE OF BALLOONING
The passion of a lifetime: To behold the stunning beauty of our world like no one else, free like a bird, high in the sky, yet one with nature, using the oldest principle of flight known to man: Lighter than air.
No wings, no noise, no pressure… just serenity, just perfect bliss. At one with the elements… at one with yourself.
